Substance/Alcohol Recovery Support

Recovery is complex.

I support clients in recovery who desire a sober lifestyle. I am committed to your recovery if that is the path you choose to be on.

Recovery is complex, especially early recovery. Folks in recovery who I work with tend to know what is needed to be successful in recovery; know what is needed to stay clean. They have connected some of the dots of the “whys” and “hows” of what led up to the circumstances they are in today.

Separation of Individuals into Humans and Behaviors

Addiction is real. It is not right or wrong. There are generally both physical and psychological components. Withdrawals are difficult.

I have found it most helpful when clients and loved ones use all the different resources available to them. It is crucial to learn more about addiction, to know some of the behaviors that may tag along with the addiction.

You aren’t a bad person. You might not like some of the behaviors you took part in in the past. I notice once clients can separate these two – themselves as a human being and their behaviors – we have an opportunity to build on their strengths and find manageable ways to decrease the unhelpful or harmful behaviors.

I can hold hope for individuals and families when they feel it is hopeless. That is part of my commitment when I work with clients.

Let’s find your best path to remain in recovery.

Let’s dive into the raw and the pain. I can be there with you. Through the shame, the guilt, recognizing things you have done to family members and loved ones. In therapy, you have an ally. There is hope.

We know what works. Routine, avoiding triggers, staying on medications if you are under the care of a psychiatrist, managing urges, healthy relationships, safety planning, and learning healthy ways to manage some of the intense emotions (depression, anxiety) that come up. Use skills to avoid self-medicating.

My success with recovery support leads my clients to feel more prepared to take on a new challenge. They tend to know when there are warning signs and when risks become greater for relapse – and how to manage these challenging situations and urges.

Clients in recovery know when they are more prone to relapse and plug in those relapse prevention strategies that were practiced in and between sessions.

Early recovery means avoiding triggers in the beginning. To gain more sobriety time with sober friends. They know to avoid some of the holiday parties and alcohol aisles in early recovery – if that was their drug of choice. It is tough; it is a commitment to remain sober and practice a different lifestyle.

It takes a team. Let us start today.
